Please encourage high school students who will be 18 before the next election to register to vote. Traditionally high school voter registration drives have been held in the spring, but COVID-19 has prevented that this year. Luckily, here in Michigan, students can register to vote online, up to two weeks before the next election. Within two weeks of the election, they can register to vote at the clerk’s office, in person, right through the end of Election Day itself. If they will be away from home at the time of the next election, they must be also be registered to vote in order to be able to apply for and receive an absentee ballot.
To be eligible to register to vote you must be:
• A Michigan resident (at the time you register) and a resident of your city or township for at least 30 days (when you vote)
• A United States citizen
• At least 18 years of age (when you vote)
• Not currently serving a sentence in jail or prison
Register to vote (and apply for absentee ballots) online
at the Michigan Voter Information Center.

This nationwide count will affect how funds go to states and communities for the next 10 years. Your child's school depends on these funds for classroom technology, teacher training, after-school programs, special education, school lunch assistance, and more. Be sure to count everyone in your household, including all children, when you respond. Invite your children to observe, to teach them about their civic duty!
